Our History

Vimy Ridge Immanuel Baptist Church has been serving the Lord and our community for over 100 years. There have been many changes to the Vimy Ridge area and the church in these last 100 years. One such change has been the name of the town. Did you know, originally the town was called Germania? Which also happens to be the name of the road we are located on. While we were battling the German Armed Forces during WWI, the town decided to change its name to Vimy Ridge, after the famous battle in France.

The Battle of Vimy Ridge was a military engagement fought primarily as part of the Battle of Arras, in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region of France, during the First World War. The main combatants were the Canadian Corps, of four divisions, against three divisions of the German Sixth Army. The battle, which took place from April 9-12, 1917, was part of the opening phase of the British-led Battle of Arras, a diversionary attack for the French Nivelle Offensive. According to a newspaper article, Immanuel Baptist Church of Germania was organized on Sunday, January 1st, 1917. Organizing the church was done by J.H. Reynolds and the following members Mr. & Mrs. Charles Huiland, Allen Johnson, and Talmege Mitchell. On January 26th, 1917 it was admitted to the Pulaski County Association. The first building was built across the street from its present location.

On January 14th, 1935 the building was put on logs and moved across the road to where it rests now. The church has gone through many hardships but by the Grace of God and it's faithful members it has always pulled through.

In 1952 the church was remodeled on the inside with new sheetrock and adding 3 new  Sunday School rooms. Then in the summer of 1955 new siding was added to the outside of the church and 3 more rooms were added to the back of the building.

We are so thankful the church has survived the good and the bad times of this country. It has endured all the many different changes and continues its present journey into the future seeking God's guidance in each and every step.
